BRIDGE

ORGANIZERS: Marjorie Espenschade, Sumner Clarren

WHERE: Fireplace Room and/or the Bistro

WHEN:

RUBBER BRIDGE: Mondays, at 2:00 – 4:00 pm and Wednesdays, 12:30 – 1:00 pm, several tables of informal rubber bridge. Two round robin tournaments are played throughout the year.

DUPLICATE BRIDGE: Wednesdays, 1:30 – 4:00 pm

DETAILS: The Broadmead Bridge Committee makes bridge accessible to all.  Courses are offered periodically

  • “Brush Up Bridge,” taught by instructors certified by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), is offered for those already familiar with the game.

  • "Beginners’ Bridge course of instruction is also offered.

 

CANASTA

ORGANIZER: Robin Tate

WHERE: Library area on the lower level of Community Center, near the two-sided fireplace

WHEN: Wednesdays, 6:30 pm

DETAILS: Open to all residents

MAH-JONGG

ORGANIZER: Francine Nietubicz

WHERE: Fireplace Room, off the Bistro

WHEN: Thursdays, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm

DETAILS: Mah Jongg is open to all residents. Inexperienced players will be coached by more experienced players and provided written assistance. The American, or Western, version of this ancient Chinese game is played. The game is played with a set of 152 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols. It is commonly played by four players at a table.

MEXICAN TRAIN DOMINOES

ORGANIZER: Barbara Scheinin

WHERE: Bistro

WHEN: Tuesdays, 6:30 pm

DETAILS: Be the first player to get rid of all the dominoes in your hand.  If you haven’t played before, we will be happy to teach you. 

PICKLEBALL

ORGANIZER: Tom Seybold

WHERE: The pickleball court behind the Community Center

WHEN: Mon., Wed., Fri. at 10 am in the warmer months (if temperatures less than 80º); 2:00 pm in the cooler months (if temperatures greater than 40º); weather permitting, in all cases

DETAILS: The goal of this fast-growing sport is to get a little exercise and to have fun! All skill levels are welcome. Spectators are welcome, too. Participants take turns playing with different partners. This facilitates a social atmosphere and a sense of community, among the players, as well as the spectators.

SCRABBLE

ORGANIZER: Open

WHERE: York and Upland Community Rooms

WHEN: 3:00 pm, Mondays at Upland, Fridays at York

DETAILS: Open to all.  No scheduled participation. Experience exciting and memorable games using the depth of your vocabulary knowledge and strategic tile placement!
