Trip to Brandywine Museum of Art - December 8

The BRA Trip Committee is planning a trip to the Brandywine Museum of Art in Chadds Ford, PA on December 8 (www.brandywine.org/museum).   Renowned for its holdings of the Wyeth family of artists, the Museum features galleries dedicated to the work of N.C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth and Jamie Wyeth. The Museum’s outstanding Heritage Collection is a cross section of American art, with a special focus on artistic practice in the Brandywine valley. Nineteenth- and twentieth-century landscape paintings testify to the beauty which drew well-known artists to the area. Important portraits, still life paintings and notable holdings in American illustration add diversity and breadth to this unique collection.  The museum showcases the work of Andrew Wyeth, a major American realist painter, and his family: his father N.C. Wyeth, illustrator of many children's classics; his sister Ann Wyeth McCoy, a composer and painter; and his son Jamie Wyeth, a contemporary American realist painter.

A featured exhibition at this time of year is Holidays at Brandywine.  The favorite holiday tradition returns to the Brandywine Museum of Art with model trains, dollhouses, and other miniature wonders, along with towering trees adorned with our signature, handmade “Critter” ornaments.  A holiday favorite since 1972, the Brandywine Railroad features model trains running on 2,000 feet of track and contains more than 1,000 pieces, including locomotives, passenger and freight trains, and trolleys that pass through a small village, a farm, factories, a drive-in movie theater and even a carnival. A dazzling array of both toy and scale model trains can be seen chugging through the varied scenery of the expansive O-gauge layout, including those made by Lionel, Williams, Atlas, Mike’s Train House, K-line and others. There's also a variety of interactive push buttons and foot pedals for visitors to engage with on the display.

The trip from Broadmead will be in a full size bus with rest room.  It will accommodate walkers and scooters.  When we arrive at the museum, we will be given a docent lead tour of either the Wyeth paintings, Holiday on the Brandywine, or Brandywine Treasures.  There is a small café, but because of the size of our group you should plan to bring a bagged lunch.  The café has drinks and chips for sale.  The museum is about 90-105 minutes from Broadmead, an easy trip.  It is located about 10 minutes from Longwood Gardens for those who went to the Gardens last year.  The cost of the trip, including admission to the museum is $55.  CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP
